Accidental Insertion of Entrie Guide-Wire in the Inferior Vena Cava During Central Venous Catheterization
|

Abstract

|
Complications during central venous catheterization are well recognized and include infection, air embolism, hemorrhage, pneumothorax and extravascular migration of central venous catheter.
The over-wire technique is usually considered safe. However, the wire itself can cause complications by looping, knotting and retention.
We experienced a case of accidental insertion of entire guide-wire during central venous catheterization via the right internal jugular vein. The right femoral vein was cannulated. and the guide-wire was removed by a PIG TAIL catheter under the
fluoroscopy.
